Served with love, from Dec. 2003 to Dec. 22, 2007

Sachin and Tenzin Mayi, founded the Share-A-Pet Organization and began their volunteer services in December of 2003. Like many others visited by the two, Beatrice Weiss would be found lying on her bed when Sachin and Tenzin arrived to share their love.

It wasn’t until December 25 of 2005 that a miraculous change took place that the Founders of Share-A-Pet will remember forever. This is how it went.

Sachin and his big yellow lab Tenzin had been visiting Beatrice for two years when they arrived to visit the residents on Christmas Day, a practice of visiting the residents on holidays, which had been incorporated since the beginning of the organization.

Beatrice had developed a great love for her friends who visited her weekly. She loved Tenzin so much that she would always say that she was going to keep him, or take him for a walk. This Christmas day proved no different except that this time, Sachin said to Beatrice, why don’t you take Tenzin for a walk. It was a beautiful Christmas day in Florida.

Beatrice didn’t answer directly and even avoided the question. But something motivated Sachin to persist and he asked Beatrice if she was able to get up, as he had never seen her out of bed. Beatrice said she didn’t know but after some encouragement agreed that she was willing to try.

One of Sachin’s greatest joys in life is to help others fulfill their desires and here was a wonderful opportunity to do so for Beatrice. So off he went with Tenzin in tow. This is where the miracle happened. There were hardly any staff on Christmas day and Beatrice didn’t have a wheelchair. She would need a special wheelchair AND a hoyer lift to get her out of bed. But as so happens in miracles, all the pieces came together and within the hour Beatrice was up.

Sachin didn’t know that Beatrice had not been out of bed for over three years and wouldn’t find out until they came back the following day for their regular visit. But on this Christmas day, in spite of being a little dizzy and disoriented, Beatrice was taken outside where she breathed in the fresh air and felt the sun on her face and felt like she was in heaven.

It was the beginning of a new life for Beatrice. The next day when Sachin and Tenzin showed up for their normal visit, her nurse was there asking her why she got up for Sachin and Tenzin when she wouldn’t get up out of bed for anyone else. Sachin remembers getting very excited at the thought of being the source of such a miracle, but wasn’t surprised to hear Beatrice say it was because of the dog, Tenzin.

From that day forward, Sachin and Tenzin made it their routine to take Beatrice out every week for a walk and to enjoy the sunshine. Her perspective on life changed completely and the Share-A-Pet Organization accommodated her transformation by providing her with clothing, a mirror and other items that had been left behind many years ago.

But it wasn’t just Beatrice that benefited. This young service oriented organization realized in Beatrice the power that pets have in inspiring love and the changes that love creates. Beatrice Weiss is an icon of inspiration for the Share-A-Pet Organization to continue to strive to grow and reach others who may benefit as much as Beatrice did.

It is with great love and appreciation that Share-A-Pet honors the memory of Beatrice Weiss. We feel her presence with us and will continue to share that energy with all of our amazing members that go forth to share love and improve lives throughout the U.S. and abroad.
