Orientation Meeting Pet Assisted Therapy

Orientation Meetings are generally held once a month at a local nursing home. Please contact your local Director to see if your dog can attend this meeting.
(See our website calendar for dates and locations in your area)

Your dog must be:
spayed/neutered,
people and dog friendly,
have basic obedience skills,
a least a year old,
and you must have owned your dog for one year.

If your dog is too young or you feel that your dog is not ready to
pass the testing requirements, we would like to refer you to our
qualified trainers who can help prepare your dog to be a TOP Dog.

Orientation Meetings last between one and one & a half hours. The first portion involves meeting the volunteers, filling out forms, and providing information about the organization.

We will discuss the various volunteering opportunities for those interested in the Assistant Program and then go into specific details of the Pet Program and the do's and dont's of Pet Assisted Therapy.

The second half of the meeting will be dedicated to observing Pet Assisted Therapy.

Things to bring:

  • A check for $50 made out to Share-A-Pet if you have not already paid online.

For the Pet Program please also bring

  • A copy of your pet's recent rabies vaccination

The Orientation Meeting will complete the Membership Process for those volunteering for the Assistant Program. Photos will be taken for the Assistant Program volunteer badges, so come prepared!
